One of the 4 vacuum induction furnaces installed between 1963 and 1989 which gave Ross and Catherall Ltd (of Killamarsh) the lead in melting of special aerospace alloys for blades and parts for jet engines. The cost of No. 1 in 1963 was and the 4th in 1989 was million. Capable of vacuum levels of 0.1 micron to ensure melting of the latest superalloys containing highly volatile elements such as Ytrium, etc.
